The breakthrough was recorded by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, following an intelligence-led operation that uncovered an alleged network linked to unlawful confinement, extortion, fraud, and other criminal activities.

Moreover, some of the rescued victims had reportedly been missing for several months, while others had been unaccounted for years.

The operation was carried out on June 4, 2026, by officers attached to the Badagry Divisional Headquarters. It was coordinated by the Divisional Officer, Chief Superintendent of Corps (CSC) Ekunola Gbenga Abraham.

According to a statement released by the Civil Defence Public Relations Officer, SC Oluwaseun Abolurin, the operation was based on credible intelligence gathered through community sources and local security stakeholders.

Furthermore, the action was said to be in line with directives issued by the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, directing commands nationwide to strengthen intelligence gathering and tackle emerging security threats.

During the operation, several suspected criminal hideouts and black spots in Itoga, Badagry, were raided.

As a result, an alleged kingpin and three foreign suspects were arrested. The suspects are said to be nationals of Togo, the Benin Republic, and Ghana.

Meanwhile, a total of 24 victims were rescued. They included 18 males, six females, and a toddler.

Investigators disclosed that the victims came from different backgrounds. Among them were citizens of Togo, the Benin Republic, and a Nigerian from Imo State.

In addition, authorities discovered that several victims had been missing for periods ranging from three months to three years.

According to information obtained during interrogation, the suspects allegedly forced victims to contact family members under false claims.

These claims reportedly included fabricated kidnapping stories, staged accidents, and other fabricated emergencies.

The alleged aim was to extort money from unsuspecting relatives who believed their loved ones were in danger.

Furthermore, investigators alleged that some victims were pressured into participating in fraudulent activities and other unlawful dealings.

Additional findings suggested that efforts were allegedly made to recruit more individuals into the network.

Several relatives reportedly spent months searching for missing family members. Some even turned to traditional and spiritual consultations after exhausting other options.

Speaking on the development, Lagos State Commandant Adedotun Keshinro praised the officers involved in the operation.

He noted that intelligence gathering and community support played vital roles in achieving the breakthrough.

Moreover, he called on residents to continue sharing useful information with security agencies.

Meanwhile, the Badagry Division has continued to record notable operational successes.

Recent operations have targeted petroleum smuggling activities along the border communities.

In addition, the division previously uncovered an alleged baby factory and unlawful confinement facility within its area.

Security officials believe strong partnerships with traditional rulers, transport unions, youth groups, vigilantes, and community associations have improved intelligence gathering.
