In a development that has caught the attention of many worshippers across Nigeria, the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) has announced the suspension of vigils and overnight church programmes nationwide.
The decision, which takes immediate effect, was made due to growing security concerns in different parts of the country. Moreover, all church services and activities have now been directed to end no later than 8:00 p.m. until further notice.
For a ministry widely known for its prayer vigils and overnight spiritual gatherings, the move has come as an adjustment. However, church leaders insist the safety of members remains the top priority during this period.
The directive was contained in an internal memo dated June 5, 2026. It was signed by the Director of Administration at the church’s international headquarters in Lagos, Temitope A. Olawale.
According to the memo, all branches across Nigeria are expected to comply fully with the new guidelines. Furthermore, the instruction was circulated to Principal Regional Overseers, Senior Regional Overseers, Mega Regional Overseers, zonal pastors, and branch pastors for immediate implementation.
The statement said, “Where necessary, vigils may be converted to evening prayer programmes and must be concluded on or before 8:00 p.m.”
In addition, the church emphasized that the measure is not intended to disrupt worship activities. Rather, it is aimed at protecting members from potential security risks.
The memo further stated, “These measures are purely precautionary and are intended to safeguard the lives and well-being of our members in the face of the current security situation in the country.”
Church authorities also made it clear that compliance is mandatory for all levels of the ministry.
According to the directive, “All MFM ministers, groups, and departments are to strictly comply with this directive.”
Meanwhile, incidents involving kidnapping, bandit attacks, and violence against communities have continued to make headlines. Therefore, institutions, businesses, and religious organizations have increasingly reviewed their operational schedules.
Furthermore, evening services are expected to continue under the new arrangement. However, all programmes must be completed before the approved closing time.
