Nollywood has lost one of its greatest legends as veteran actor Olu Jacobs has passed away at the age of 84.
The actor’s son Olusoji Jacobs, shared the sad news on Instagram, the announcement came on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
Olu Jacobs death has left many fans and colleagues heartbroken, he was widely respected as one of Nigeria’s finest actors.
Born on July 11, 1942, Jacobs built an incredible career across decades, he first gained recognition in British television series and international films.
He trained at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in England, which shaped his skill and helped him work with respected theatre groups in Britain.
Jacobs is survived by his wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, he also leaves behind their sons and a granddaughter.
The family shared a heartfelt statement honoring his life and legacy. “It is with gratitude to God for a life well lived and fought, that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and uncle. The Lion of Lufodo,” the statement read.
They also shared his full name and life dates. “Oludotun Baiyewun Jacobs (MFR), 11/07/1942-16/09/2026,” the statement noted.
The family, however, asked for privacy during this difficult time. They made a direct appeal to bloggers and influencers online.
“We call on all bloggers and social media influencers to respect our family’s privacy at this time,” the statement added.
As tributes continue pouring in, Jacobs will be remembered as a true pioneer, and his legacy in film remains one that shaped generations of actors.
