Nollywood veteran Pete Edochie has opened up about his final memories of his late friend, Olu Jacobs. Edochie described Jacobs as a peaceful and humorous man who remained strong through difficult years.
The veteran actor also paid tribute to Joke Silva for standing by her husband during his long illness. In an emotional tribute, Edochie remembered Jacobs as a colleague who became like a brother.
“Olu, my brother, you fought like a man,” he said.
Edochie said Jacobs fought bravely, just like the soldier he had always known, he also urged Silva to remember the words Jacobs left with her before his death. Edochie said Jacobs lived beyond the biblical lifespan often associated with three scores and ten. He noted that Jacobs reached 84, describing his long life as something worth celebrating.
According to Edochie, Jacobs’ final years were difficult and different from what they had expected. He said the family and close friends could only accept the situation as part of life.
Edochie also expressed hope that one of Jacobs’ children would choose acting. He said this would help keep the memory of the legendary actor alive.
“My one prayer is that one of Olu’s children takes to acting,” Edochie said.
The actor also encouraged Silva to hold on to Jacobs’ words as she moves forward.
“Your problems are firmly behind you. Joke, take care,” Edochie recalled Jacobs telling her.
Edochie ended his tribute with an emotional thought about meeting Jacobs again someday.
“If it is true that people recognise one another after they have gone, then there is a possibility that we will meet again,” he said.
His death marked the loss of one of Nollywood’s most respected veteran actors.
