A wave of unexpected fire outbreaks has left residents in Ibadan shaken after a police station and several homes were affected in separate incidents.
The sudden spread of the fires raised concern across parts of the Oyo State capital, especially as key properties were damaged.
The fire incident reportedly affected a police facility in Kara, located in Akinyele Local Government Area. In addition, three residential buildings in different parts of the city were also caught in the blaze on the same day.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic as people rushed to salvage belongings and alert emergency responders.
According to available information, a patrol vehicle and several motorcycles at the police station were destroyed. Meanwhile, the main building was saved after swift intervention by firefighters.
The Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident and provided details of the response.
He stated, “On getting to the scene, it was a patrol van and seven motorcycles that were engulfed by fire. Our officers quickly launched a coordinated attack, restricted the fire from spreading to the police station’s building and other properties”.

Furthermore, three residential buildings located in separate areas were also affected. One of the houses is situated at No.19, Omigade Street, Robert Junction, Ososami area. Others were reported in Moniya and Alakia, respectively.
Meanwhile, emergency teams were deployed to each location to control the situation. The fires were eventually contained, preventing further destruction. In addition, no loss of life was reported.
Akinwande also confirmed that firefighters responded promptly to each case. According to him, the service took control of the incidents and ensured that the flames were brought under control.
However, the cause of the fires has not yet been officially determined. Investigations are expected to be carried out to understand how the incidents occurred almost simultaneously.
Authorities have continued to stress the need for vigilance and safety measures in homes and public spaces.
