A significant development has been recorded in efforts to combat maritime crime, as 14 kidnapped victims were safely rescued along the Calabar–Oron waterways.
The rescue, followed a coordinated effort between security agencies working behind the scenes.
According to a statement released by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, the operation was carried out in partnership with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command, in a coordinated joint operation with operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has successfully secured the release of all fourteen (14) victims abducted by sea pirates along the Calabar–Oron waterways.”
Meanwhile, security operatives were said to have increased surveillance across known hotspots before launching targeted actions.
In addition, it was confirmed that no lives were lost during the operation. The victims are currently undergoing medical checks and necessary debriefing.

Furthermore, the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, praised the teamwork displayed during the mission.
He noted that the success highlights how joint operations can deliver results when properly executed.
However, authorities made it clear that the operation is not over. Efforts are ongoing to track down those responsible for the abduction.
“The Command assures the public that all those involved will be identified and brought to justice.”
Moreover, residents and maritime operators have been reassured of stronger security presence along the waterways.
