A surprising twist has emerged after a months-long investigation into Pastor Jerry Eze, as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) found no evidence of wrongdoing.
Speaking at the Jerry Eze Foundation Business Grant Award Ceremony in Abuja, EFCC Executive Chairman Ola Olukoyede revealed details of the probe. He explained that the investigation was triggered by intelligence reports and financial patterns that raised concern.
“We work by intelligence, we work by petitions. At some point, I saw there was a domiciliary account. Dollars, pounds were dropping in like raindrops from Colombia, from America, from Sri Lanka, even from Togo. I said, who is this man?” he stated.
Moreover, Olukoyede said the commission carried out a detailed review of the financial records.
However, after compiling what appeared to be a strong case, the EFCC invited the pastor for questioning.
Meanwhile, the outcome of the meeting took a different turn. After reviewing the full details, the commission found that the funds were linked to legitimate religious and charitable activities.
“I called you here to commend you. The EFCC should also be identified with people who have integrity. We must celebrate them, and you are one of them,” Olukoyede said.
Furthermore, the EFCC chairman emphasised the importance of recognising individuals who maintain transparency.
In addition, he disclosed that other investigations are ongoing, including cases involving religious figures. He mentioned that several imams are currently in the commission’s custody.
However, he maintained that each case is handled based on evidence and due process.
