The Federal Government delegation has arrived in Oyo State following the abduction of dozens of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.
The visit comes amid growing concern over the fate of the victims. Armed men reportedly stormed three schools in Esiele and Yawota communities and whisked away about 46 pupils and teachers.
The development has triggered nationwide attention. Consequently, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ordered a high-level team to visit the affected area and assess the situation firsthand.
The delegation arrived in Ogbomoso before proceeding to the affected communities. It was led by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Also on the team were the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, and the Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (retd.).
In addition, the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, and Presidential media aide Sunday Dare joined the delegation.
The visit is seen as a major step in the Federal Government’s response to the disturbing incident.
According to information released by government officials, the team is expected to conduct a detailed assessment of the affected communities.
Furthermore, meetings are expected to be held with community leaders, security agencies, parents, and other stakeholders.
A statement on the visit noted:
“The team is on a fact-finding and security assessment visit to evaluate the situation, meet affected communities, and coordinate the Federal Government’s response.”
The statement further explained that the visit demonstrates increasing federal attention to the crisis.
“The visit signals growing federal attention to the incident as efforts intensify to secure the safe return of the abducted pupils and teachers and strengthen security across affected communities.”
Meanwhile, residents of the affected villages continue to wait anxiously for positive news.
Many community members have expressed concern over the safety of the children and teachers. However, security agencies have assured residents that efforts are being intensified.
The presence of the National Security Adviser and the Inspector-General of Police has further raised expectations among residents.
Meanwhile, additional security measures are expected to be implemented across vulnerable communities in the state.
Authorities have also assured parents that every available resource is being deployed to bring the victims home safely.
For now, attention remains focused on the affected communities, where families continue to hope for the safe return of their loved ones.
