The Federal Government has announced security measures in Oyo State following the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.
In a move that has drawn national attention, President Bola Tinubu approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards to strengthen security across vulnerable communities. The decision comes as efforts continue to secure the release of pupils and teachers abducted from three schools in the area.
The development was disclosed on Sunday during a visit by a high-powered Federal Government delegation to Esiele and Yawota communities. The visit followed the May 15 abduction of pupils and teachers from Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School.
The delegation was led by the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila. It included top government and security officials tasked with assessing the situation and reassuring affected residents.
Consequently, the Federal Government has continued to review additional security measures for the area.
Speaking during the visit, Gbajabiamila revealed that requests for a military base in the affected communities would be forwarded to President Tinubu for consideration.
Moreover, he disclosed that the President had directed a specialized security team with advanced rescue capabilities to intensify efforts in locating and rescuing the victims.

According to him, the President remains deeply concerned about the situation and is committed to ensuring a positive outcome.
“Mr. President is deeply troubled by this incident. Whatever it takes, our children and teachers will be brought back home safely. He has issued all necessary directives and is providing every support required by our security agencies to achieve that objective.”
The statement was received with cautious optimism by community members who have endured weeks of uncertainty.
Furthermore, Gbajabiamila sought to reassure parents that the rescue mission would be handled carefully.
“Your pain and anxiety are understood. By the grace of God, your children will return safely to your arms.”
Meanwhile, concerns had been raised by some residents about the safety of rescue operations. In response, the delegation emphasized that security agencies would rely on intelligence and careful planning.
“Mr. President also saw the appeals from some parents and community members urging caution in the rescue efforts. Let me assure you that the operation will be intelligence-led and carefully coordinated, deploying both kinetic and non-kinetic measures to secure the safe return of the victims,” he said.
The approval of forest guards is expected to improve surveillance across forests and remote locations. These areas have often been linked to criminal activities and kidnapping operations.
Meanwhile, residents continue to hope for good news as security agencies intensify search operations.
