The Rivers State Police Command has dismissed three officers over the killing of 22-year-old University of Port Harcourt graduate, Anthony Obodo.
Obodo was killed on August 27, 2026, near Agip-Ada George Junction in Port Harcourt.
His death sparked protests, with youths and residents demanding justice and accountability from the police.
Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, announced the dismissals during a briefing on Wednesday.
Adepoju said investigations found the officers culpable in the incident.
“The officers being paraded today have been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force and will be charged to court,” Adepoju said.
According to the police, officers attempted to stop Obodo during a patrol operation.
The command said he allegedly failed to stop immediately, leading to a chase.
It added that an officer, Corporal Alfred Louis, allegedly fired at the vehicle during the pursuit.
The incident resulted in Obodo’s death, while two other people were reportedly injured.
The command also said an Inspector allegedly fled the scene after the shooting.
The officer has since been declared a deserter by the police.
Adepoju stressed that the command would not protect officers found to have broken the law.
Protesters reportedly blocked Agip Road and parts of the East-West Road around Ada George.
The police said the dismissed officers would face criminal prosecution after being removed from the force.
However, the command has not announced the specific charges or court date.
