The Nigeria Police Force has launched a new app that allows Nigerians to report suspected financial fraud.
Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu unveiled the NPF Vigilant App in Abuja on Tuesday.
The Force also introduced an NPF-MTN Closed User Group network for faster communication among police officers nationwide.
The Vigilant App gives users a direct way to submit fraud complaints and upload supporting evidence.
Users can also monitor their complaints and receive updates as their cases are reviewed.
The police said the platform was developed by its ICT Department with support from financial sector partners.
Disu described the two digital tools as a “practical step in the Force’s digital transformation drive.”
He said the app would make it easier for citizens to report suspected financial crimes.
The IGP added that the new communication network would help officers coordinate during emergencies.
He stressed that technology must be used responsibly while protecting citizens’ rights and personal information.
The police said the NPF Vigilant App will also support cooperation between law enforcement agencies and financial institutions.
The Force said the initiative aims to improve public engagement and make policing more effective.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police urged Nigerians to download the app.
He encouraged users to provide responsible reports about suspected fraudulent activities.
The launch was attended by representatives from the Central Bank of Nigeria, NIBSS, financial institutions, fintech companies and MTN Nigeria.
The police said both platforms form part of its wider plan to modernise policing through technology.
