A Delta State High Court has ordered the remand of a dismissed police officer accused of fatally shooting a young singer in a case that sparked nationwide outrage.

The officer, identified as Usman Nuhu, was remanded alongside four other suspects after appearing before the court in connection with the death of 28-year-old musician Oghenemine Mene Ogidi, popularly known as OG Millan.

Many Nigerians had demanded justice after the video surfaced online. Consequently, the latest court action is being viewed as a significant step in the legal process.

The case has remained one of the most discussed incidents involving alleged police misconduct in recent months.

Moreover, rights groups and concerned citizens have continued to follow developments closely.

According to reports, the victim was seen seated on the ground in the viral footage. His hands appeared to be tied behind his back with a rope.

As public pressure increased, authorities launched investigations into the incident. Furthermore, the Delta State Police Command confirmed that disciplinary and criminal procedures had been initiated.

Delta Police spokesperson Bright Edafe earlier confirmed that Usman was arrested and transferred to the Force Headquarters in Abuja for internal disciplinary proceedings.

In addition, Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, approved recommendations from the Force Disciplinary Committee. The recommendation resulted in the officer’s dismissal from the Nigeria Police Force.

Meanwhile, court proceedings have now moved the matter into a new phase.

On Monday, Usman appeared before the Delta State High Court with four other defendants. They were identified as Onoloko Dauroupamo, Okoh Kelechi, Goodluck Kingsley, and Omonigho Ahweyevu.

The suspects were arraigned under charge number DTHC/ASB/CR/M/66c/2026. Thereafter, the court ordered that they be remanded pending further proceedings.

Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu confirmed the court’s decision and described the development as progress in the pursuit of justice.

According to him, the court directed that all five defendants be held at the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Centre while the case continues.

Across the country, many citizens have continued to call for transparent investigations whenever allegations of excessive force arise. Therefore, the outcome of this case is expected to be closely watched by human rights advocates and members of the public.
