Sadness have spread across Nollywood and the academic community following reports that veteran actor Patrick Okoye, popularly known as “Energy,” has passed away.
The respected actor and lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, UNIZIK, was reportedly confirmed dead on Thursday morning, May 28, 2026.
The emotional post featured a photo of the late actor with the caption, “Rest in peace legend 💔😭.”
Although details surrounding his death remain limited, reports indicated that he passed away earlier on Thursday.
Furthermore, a statement reportedly shared by the Head of the Department of Theatre and Film Studies at UNIZIK, Dr. Nkemakonam Aniukwu, confirmed the sad development.
According to the statement, Patrick Okoye was remembered as a vibrant personality who contributed greatly to both Nollywood and education.
The department described him as an exceptional teacher, mentor, and creative figure who influenced many young talents.
“The statement noted that his demise came as a painful shock to colleagues, students, friends, and everyone who knew him,” the report stated.
In addition, the statement explained that his death created a vacuum that would be difficult to fill within the university community.
Dr. Aniukwu also prayed for strength and comfort for the actor’s family, loved ones, students, and colleagues during the difficult period.
Meanwhile, many former students and fans have continued sharing emotional reactions online following the heartbreaking news.
One of the reactions came from Okoye Chinenye, who described the late actor as one of the best lecturers at the institution.
“Wow! Too pity! My lecturer! Patrick Okoye! The only lecturer so far Dat have done a good teaching to the students of Unizik, so far, so good. Rest in peace!!!” the student wrote.
Another social media user, Obinna Ijeoma Hope, also reacted emotionally to the development.
“Omo this man that i use to enjoy his movies on Epic. Omo this life eeeeh. One minute we are alive and vibrant and then the next minute we are lifeless,” he wrote.
His passing reportedly comes just weeks after the death of actor Alexx Ekubo, who was said to have battled ill health.
Patrick Okoye was widely respected for balancing his acting career with teaching responsibilities at UNIZIK.
