The emotional atmosphere at the Service of Songs held in honour of late Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo took a turn after reports emerged that several phones were stolen during the event in Lekki, Lagos.
What was meant to be a solemn gathering of family, friends, colleagues, and well-wishers was overshadowed by complaints of missing phones.
Actor Stan Nze was among the first to publicly react. He expressed disappointment over the development and described the situation as disturbing.
His comments have attracted widespread attention, especially as many Nigerians continue to debate issues surrounding personal responsibility and public conduct.
According to Stan Nze, more than five phones reportedly disappeared during the gathering. The revelation came less than a day after the tribute event, which was attended by members of the entertainment industry and close associates of the late actor.
Speaking on the incident, Nze questioned how individuals could take advantage of people who were mourning the loss of a loved one.
He said, “How can you come to a service of songs where people are mourning and grieving for the late Alexx Ekubo and you steål phones? More than five phones were missing yesterday. We are always complaining about the government, but if we chase everyone from the government, who will enter there? Still the citizens.”

His statement has since generated mixed reactions on social media. While many agreed with his concerns, others argued that security measures at public events should also be strengthened.
Meanwhile, the incident has reopened conversations about ethics, public behaviour, and accountability in society.
Furthermore, some social media users said the situation reflects a wider challenge facing society. They argued that national development requires not only good leadership but also responsible citizens.
In addition, security experts often advise attendees at large gatherings to remain alert and secure their valuables. Such precautions are considered important, especially at events attracting large crowds.
Although no official statement has been released regarding the missing devices, concern continues to grow among attendees. Meanwhile, efforts are expected to be made to determine how the phones disappeared.
