The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has again pushed for stronger trust between Nigerians and the police.
His latest remarks came during a high-level meeting with the Governor of Edo State at the State House.
The meeting, which focused heavily on national security and public safety, revealed a fresh direction for the Nigeria Police Force.
Moreover, the IGP stressed that modern policing must now focus more on intelligence gathering, transparency, and cooperation with citizens.
In a statement that quickly drew attention, the police chief made it clear that officers can no longer operate in isolation from the people.
According to him, the success of policing depends greatly on public trust and communication.

Furthermore, Olatunji Disu disclosed that Commissioners of Police nationwide have been instructed to make their phone numbers available to the public.
According to the IGP, officers have also been directed to explain the reasons behind arrests and police actions to affected individuals. He noted that respecting human rights remains an important part of professional policing.

In addition, the police boss emphasized that intelligence-led policing remains central to the Force’s operations. He explained that security agencies must now focus more on preventing crimes before they happen.
The IGP noted that stronger partnerships between citizens and law enforcement agencies are necessary for long-term peace and stability.
Meanwhile, the Governor of Edo State praised the Inspector-General for what he described as a calm and professional leadership style. He commended the police chief for promoting a more civil approach to law enforcement.
The governor also pledged continued support for the Nigeria Police Force. Furthermore, he stressed the need for stronger collaboration between state governments and security agencies in tackling criminal activities.
According to him, police officers serving in Edo State have continued to show dedication despite growing security challenges. He therefore applauded their efforts toward protecting lives and property across the state.
In addition, the governor expressed satisfaction with the direction of the Edo State Police Command under the current leadership structure.
He noted that public confidence is gradually improving as officers embrace professionalism and community engagement.
