IGP Disu Visits Oyo, Assures Parents as Police Intensify Hunt for School Kidnappers

Fear spread across parts of Oyo State after several school pupils and staff members were reportedly abducted by suspected kidnappers on Friday morning.

The incident happened in Yawota and Esiele communities in Orire Local Government Area.

The abduction immediately triggered tension among residents, parents, and local leaders. However, the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, personally visited the affected communities on Saturday to assess the situation and reassure worried families.

According to reports, the attack occurred around 9:30 a.m. The victims included pupils and staff members of Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota. In addition, pupils and workers from Community Grammar School and L.A Primary School, Esiele, were also affected.

Security agencies quickly launched rescue operations after the incident was reported. Tactical police teams were deployed immediately. Meanwhile, intelligence officers reportedly traced the suspected kidnappers toward nearby forest areas.

During his visit, IGP Disu met with residents who gathered in large numbers. Many parents appeared emotional while demanding urgent action from security agencies.

Speaking during the visit, the police chief assured residents that efforts were ongoing behind the scenes to rescue the victims safely.

“I assure you that we are working tirelessly behind the scenes to secure the safe return of everyone abducted. While I cannot disclose all our operational strategies, I appeal to you to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies and continue to pray for the success of ongoing operations. By the special grace of God, we will succeed,” the IGP stated.

Furthermore, the police boss disclosed that security operatives had already made important progress in the operation. Although details were not revealed, he expressed confidence that positive developments would soon emerge.

Parents and community leaders have continued calling for stronger protection around schools, especially in remote areas.

Meanwhile, residents of Yawota and Erin-Ele were reassured that additional security personnel had been deployed across the communities.

In addition, local leaders reportedly praised the swift response from the Nigeria Police Force. Many residents said the physical visit by the IGP helped reduce panic within the affected communities.
