The Nigerian movie industry has been thrown into mourning following reports claiming that Yoruba actress Tope Osoba has died after her battle with breast cancer.
The reports have triggered widespread reactions on social media, with many remembering her courage throughout her health journey.
Tributes have continued to pour in from fans and colleagues who admired her strength and determination.
Tope Osoba, whose full name is Temitope Kofoworola Osoba, publicly revealed in late 2024 that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer after discovering a lump during a self-examination.
She underwent surgery in November 2024 before having another procedure to remove the remaining cancer cells.
Her treatment reportedly cost about ₦12 million, with colleagues, including actress Foluke Daramola, helping to raise funds for her medical care.
In August 2025, she announced that she had defeated the illness and was returning to the movie industry.
Sharing the good news on Instagram, she wrote, “Dear beloved fans, supporters, and loved ones, I’m Temitope Osoba, and after my cancer experience, I’m excited to announce my reintroduction. This journey has been a turning point, leading to my rebranding, reshaping, and rebuilding. I’m emerging stronger, more resilient, and more passionate about sharing my story and inspiring others.”
She continued, “This new chapter is about healing, growth, and empowerment. I’m committed to using my platform to support cancer awareness and help others who may be walking a similar path.”
The actress also thanked her management team for supporting her comeback and expressed her readiness for new acting roles, endorsements and collaborations. She appreciated her fans for standing by her throughout her recovery.
Tope Osoba, who hailed from Abeokuta, Ogun State, was expected to celebrate her 41st birthday in December 2026.
