Police, NIPSS Seal New Security Partnership

A  collaboration is emerging within Nigeria’s security and policy space. The Nigeria Police Force and a top policy institute are moving closer.

Moreover, the partnership is being positioned as a key step toward improving national security outcomes.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, recently met with the Director-General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies. The meeting was held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

During the visit, Professor Ayo Omotayo was accompanied by senior figures, including retired DIG ‘Leye Oyebade. In addition, Dr. Garba Malumfashi was present.

The discussions focused on strengthening collaboration in critical areas such as leadership development and policy reform.

Meanwhile, Professor Omotayo described NIPSS as a leading platform for policy research in Nigeria. He noted that the institute operates directly under the Presidency.

Furthermore, he explained that NIPSS is well placed to support the police in strategic planning. Areas such as capacity building and policy design were highlighted.

In response, the IGP welcomed the initiative and reaffirmed his commitment to reform. He stressed the importance of intelligence-led policing in modern security operations.

He stated, “The Nigeria Police Force is ready to partner with NIPSS in advancing research, policy formulation, and leadership development initiatives that will strengthen internal security and governance.”

This statement reflects a clear intention to deepen cooperation between both institutions.

In addition, the involvement of NIPSS brings a research-driven approach to security challenges. This could help address complex issues facing the nation.

The Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, also spoke on the development. He reiterated the importance of partnerships in achieving national goals.

Furthermore, he emphasized that collaboration remains essential in ensuring public safety. However, the success of this partnership will depend on sustained commitment from both sides. Effective implementation will be key to achieving results.
