“The Benue State Police Command wishes to inform the general public of a significant breakthrough following the kidnapping incident that occurred on 15th April, 2026 in Otukpo,” the statement said.

However, confusion remains over the exact number of abducted passengers. Some reports suggest about 17 victims.
The police, however, insist that 14 people were taken. They also stated that one person escaped at the scene.
Moreover, authorities have dismissed claims that the victims were UTME candidates. The reports were described as false.
The command clarified that the passengers were ordinary travelers. They were not part of any exam-related movement.
