Nana Akua Addo Responds to AMVCA Cathedral Dress Theft Allegations

Ghanaian actress and fashion star Nana Akua Addo has finally responded to the growing controversy surrounding her viral AMVCA cathedral-inspired outfit.

The fashion conversation exploded online after Paris-based fashion brand ALmée Couture accused the actress of taking their design concept to another designer after ending their business deal.

However, Nana Akua Addo strongly denied the allegations and insisted that the creative vision behind the famous gown belonged to her from the beginning.

The actress explained that she personally developed the idea and only approached the fashion house to help bring it to life.

Meanwhile, the dramatic fashion dispute has quickly become one of the biggest entertainment and style stories linked to the 2026 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.

The now-famous “cathedral” dress attracted massive attention during the AMVCA red carpet event because of its bold structure and architectural inspiration.

According to Nana, the outfit was inspired by the Cologne Cathedral in Germany.

The actress addressed the accusations through her official social media account while sharing screenshots of her previous conversations with the designer.

In her statement, she explained why the partnership with ALmée Couture eventually collapsed.

“I reached out to @almee.li for my outfit. I shared my idea with you and explained exactly how I wanted it,” Nana wrote.

She further stated, “You mentioned that you didn’t want to execute it the way I envisioned because of how detailed my ideas were, a refund was made, and I eventually got someone else to create it.”

Moreover, Nana questioned why the fashion house later claimed ownership of the final design after declining the project initially.

“So why and how is it now being claimed as yours? The entire concept and creative direction were my intellectual property,” she added.

In addition, the actress defended herself strongly in another emotional message attached to her post.

“THE AUDACITY!!! THIS WAS MY MOODBOARD architectural, structure!!!” she wrote.

Nana also used local expressions to explain her frustration over the allegations.

“I carry my idea and concept come show you, you say you no fit do am, I carry my Kaya go another place, headache don Dey worry you,” she added.

Furthermore, the actress publicly praised the Nigerian designer who eventually created the outfit.

She thanked the designer for taking what she described as a major risk by producing the detailed masterpiece.

Many social media users argued that fashion ideas can belong to clients, especially when designers decline projects.
