The case involving Nigerian socialite and influencer Afolabi Kazeem Michael, popularly known as KayCee Luxury, has taken a fresh turn.
A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to produce him in court.
The order followed concerns over his continued detention without a formal charge or arraignment.
Justice Friday Ogazi issued the order on Thursday, August 27, after KayCee Luxury’s lawyer filed an application on his behalf.
The influencer has reportedly spent about 14 days in NDLEA custody since his arrest.
He is accused of being involved in an international cocaine trafficking network operating through Nigeria.
The alleged network reportedly used Nigeria as a transit route for cocaine shipments to the UK, Europe and Asia.
A logistics company employee was also arrested in connection with the investigation.
However, the court has not ruled on the allegations against KayCee Luxury.
His lawyer, A. Labi-Lawal, SAN, argued that his continued detention without a charge violates his constitutional right to personal liberty.
The application also alleged that NDLEA officials searched his Banana Island residence without a warrant.
Several items were reportedly seized during the search, including cash, luxury watches, bags, an iPhone and vehicles.
KayCee Luxury also claimed that images and videos of him in custody were circulated publicly.
His father further raised concerns about his health, saying he requires urgent treatment for severe asthma.
The court directed the NDLEA to respond to the application and explain why Michael should not be released or granted bail.
The agency was also ordered to produce him before the court. However, the case has been adjourned until September 9 for hearing of the main application.
