Residents of Aboh Mbaise were left stunned after operatives of the Imo State Police Command uncovered a suspected criminal base linked to armed separatist activities.
The operation led to the arrest of three suspects and the recovery of dangerous weapons and ammunition hidden inside the area.
The police raid, which was carried out by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit in Owerri, followed fresh intelligence gathered from a confession reportedly made by a suspected IPOB/ESN commander identified as Ebube Uchenna Mmaduakolam, also known as “Ebube Virus.”
According to the police, the operation took place on April 23, 2026, at Nguru in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area. Furthermore, security operatives said the discovery exposed another layer of criminal activities allegedly linked to violent attacks in the South-East.
The Imo Police Command confirmed that the suspects were arrested during the operation. In addition, officers recovered a large cache of weapons and ammunition believed to have been stored for future attacks.
Police sources disclosed that security personnel recovered “3,115 rounds of GPMG ammunition, two GPMG guns, one pump-action gun, one AK-47 rifle, and various denominations of Biafra currency.”

The recovered weapons have since been taken into police custody for further investigation.
The latest Imo police raid has again raised concerns over the activities of criminal groups operating across parts of the South-East.
Residents around the community reportedly expressed surprise after learning that such heavy weapons were allegedly hidden within the area.
The police said the operation was carefully planned after credible intelligence was received from ongoing investigations involving suspected criminal elements.
According to the command, the raid forms part of broader efforts aimed at reducing kidnapping, armed violence, and attacks on security personnel in Imo State.
The Imo police raid has also renewed conversations around regional security and the activities of armed groups in parts of the country.
Although investigations are still ongoing, authorities assured residents that more updates would be released soon.
