Eight persons confirmed dead at Baruwa- Ipaja gas explosion in Lagos

A gas explosion occurred in the early hours of Thursday at a gas plant situated at Unity bus stop Baruwa- Ipaja area in Lagos.

There are casualties as eight persons have been confirmed dead in the ghastly explosion.

A statement by the Director General of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu said the incident happened around 6am on Thursday morning, destroying 25 houses (mostly bungalows), 8 human lives, 16 lock up shops, and a Primary School.

Casualties still being assessed,  update will follow as firefighters and rescue workers continue to operate at the incident scene. The cause of fire is still unknown but official NEMA (Nigerian Emergency Management Agency) had disclosed to Channels Television at the scene that a generator had triggered the explosion.
