A Nigerian bishop has reportedly been killed at his residence in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Bishop Taiwo Michael Fakunle, 58, was allegedly attacked at his home in Kensington.
The incident reportedly occurred on Friday, September 4, leaving relatives and members of the Nigerian community shocked.
The Nigerian Citizens Association South Africa, NICASA, confirmed the reported death.
It’s National President, Rev. Frank Onyekwelu, said the incident had devastated Fakunle’s family and friends.
According to Onyekwelu, two suspects allegedly entered the bishop’s residence before the attack.
He said the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
Onyekwelu described the reported Bishop Fakunle killing as a serious loss to Nigerians in South Africa.
“This was not merely an ordinary loss of life; it was a horrific and senseless act of violence that has robbed a family of a loved one and the Nigerian community of another precious life.” he said
NICASA said it had reported the matter to Nigeria’s Consulate General in Johannesburg.
A murder case was also reportedly opened at Jeppe Police Station.
The association has called on the South African Police Service to investigate the case fully, Onyekwelu urged authorities to establish what happened and identify those responsible.
Fakunle was an indigene of Iye, in Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
NICASA said it would continue to engage relevant authorities as investigations into the reported killing continue.
