Fueling up in Nigeria could soon look very different as NNPCL begins a major shift in fuel retailing, as the company has opened its first smart self-service filling station in Abuja.
The technology-powered station is located along Bill Clinton Drive, Airport Road, Abuja.
NNPCL plans to deploy between 50 and 70 more smart stations nationwide within six months.
The new station allows motorists to handle more fueling and payment activities without depending fully on attendants.
It also offers electric vehicle charging points and automated car wash services, motorists can access lubricant services and LPG dispensing at the facility.
NNPC Retail also plans to add CNG as part of its wider energy services.
The NNPCL smart filling station is designed to make fuel purchases faster and easier, the company said automation could help reduce queues at its stations.
It could also improve transaction records and reduce problems linked to manual operations, in which the new model forms part of NNPC Retail’s wider move toward automated services.
The company is already introducing technology into some areas of its operations, with more stations planned, the initiative could change how motorists buy fuel across Nigeria.
The NNPCL smart filling station project also reflects the growing use of technology in Nigeria’s energy sector.
