Defence Minister Meets IGP, Top Police Officers Over Nigeria’s Security Challenges

In a move that has drawn attention across Nigeria’s security landscape, the Defence Minister Meets IGP.

The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd), paid a working visit to the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday. The meeting came at a time when concerns over insecurity remain high in several parts of the country.

Although such engagements are part of government efforts to improve security, the high-level gathering has attracted interest because it brought together the nation’s top police leadership. Former Inspectors-General of Police and serving senior officers were also present during the discussions.

According to information shared by the Ministry of Defence on its official X handle, the meeting focused on strengthening collaboration among security institutions to address current security challenges facing the country.

The ministry stated that the Defence Minister engaged the police leadership in discussions aimed at improving coordination and operational effectiveness. Furthermore, participants explored ways to enhance information sharing and joint security efforts.

“The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd), on Thursday paid a working visit to the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja,” the ministry stated.

It further noted that, “the Defence Minister held discussions with the IGP, former Inspectors-General of Police, and serving senior officers on ways to strengthen collaboration in tackling the country’s current security challenges.”

The meeting comes as security agencies continue efforts to address threats linked to terrorism, kidnapping, armed attacks, and other criminal activities.

In addition, joint planning has been identified as an important factor in preventing security gaps that criminal groups may attempt to exploit. Therefore, meetings involving senior security officials are often seen as important steps toward achieving common security goals.
