‘We Are Grateful’ – FG Applauds RCCG Over $265,854 Donation for Nigerians in South Africa

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has donated $265,854 to support Nigerians returning from South Africa.

The money will fund 500 one-way tickets for Nigerians affected by xenophobic and Afrophobic attacks.

The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the donation as a major show of support for distressed Nigerians.

Foreign Affairs spokesperson Oluwafemi Adeniyi said the government appreciated the church’s help during the ongoing evacuation.

“This gesture further demonstrates the impact that collaboration between faith-based organisations and public institutions can have in addressing social challenges and advancing the common good. We are grateful for this partnership and look forward to working with the church’s leadership in South Africa, as the generous donation is applied to the evacuation of 500 distressed Nigerians,” Adeniyi said.

The Federal Government began evacuating Nigerians from South Africa on June 10, 2026.

Since then, 1,640 Nigerians have reportedly returned home through the exercise.

The government fully funded the return of 1,385 people, while donations supported another 255.

Adeniyi said 202 Nigerians are currently awaiting final screening by South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs.

Nigeria’s diplomatic missions in Pretoria and Johannesburg are also assisting citizens seeking to return home.

The ministry said it remains committed to protecting Nigerians living abroad.

It also welcomed further support from private groups, philanthropists and faith-based organisations.

The ministry said cooperation with South African authorities will continue to address xenophobia and Afrophobia.

It also thanked the RCCG for supporting the Federal Government’s evacuation efforts.
