However, more than 5,000 displaced residents have returned to their homes following a major police-led mission aimed at restoring peace and confidence in the troubled community.

Zamfara displaced residents return, following an operation led by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Mohammed Bello. Despite reports of security threats along the route, the police chief reportedly pushed ahead with plans to secure the area and encourage displaced persons to return.
According to security reports, Fegin Kanawa had become largely deserted after residents escaped persistent threats from armed bandits. Furthermore, concerns over possible landmines and improvised explosive devices made access to the community extremely difficult.
Yet authorities believed that lasting peace could only be achieved if displaced families were able to return safely to their homes.
As a result, a large number of police officers and security assets were deployed to the area. Strategic locations were secured, while patrol operations were intensified across the community and surrounding areas.
