For months, Fegin Kanawa stood silent.
The remote Zamfara community was abandoned after repeated attacks forced residents to flee for safety.
However, more than 5,000 displaced residents have returned to their homes following a major police-led mission aimed at restoring peace and confidence in the troubled community.
The development marks a significant breakthrough in efforts to tackle insecurity in Zamfara State. Moreover, it has given thousands of families a chance to rebuild their lives after months of uncertainty.
Zamfara displaced residents return, following an operation led by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Mohammed Bello. Despite reports of security threats along the route, the police chief reportedly pushed ahead with plans to secure the area and encourage displaced persons to return.
According to security reports, Fegin Kanawa had become largely deserted after residents escaped persistent threats from armed bandits. Furthermore, concerns over possible landmines and improvised explosive devices made access to the community extremely difficult.
Yet authorities believed that lasting peace could only be achieved if displaced families were able to return safely to their homes.
As a result, a large number of police officers and security assets were deployed to the area. Strategic locations were secured, while patrol operations were intensified across the community and surrounding areas.
Meanwhile, additional security measures were introduced to prevent fresh attacks and reassure residents of their safety.
The effort gradually restored confidence among displaced families. Consequently, thousands of residents began returning to Fegin Kanawa after spending months away from their homes.
Moreover, residents reportedly offered prayers and words of appreciation to the police officers involved in the operation.
Many community members described the intervention as a turning point. Some praised CP Ahmed Mohammed Bello and his team for entering an area many considered too dangerous.

Several returnees noted that the presence of security personnel gave them renewed confidence to restart their lives.
Community leaders also welcomed the development. In addition, they described it as an important step toward restoring normal life in areas affected by bandit attacks.
According to local leaders, the continued security presence has encouraged more displaced persons to consider returning home.
Furthermore, the operation highlights the role of coordinated security efforts in addressing displacement caused by violence.
Meanwhile, security personnel are expected to maintain patrols and monitoring activities within the area.
