Oyo School Abduction: Troops Block Escape Routes to Forest hideout

Hope is rising in Oyo State as security forces tighten their grip on kidnappers holding schoolchildren and teachers.

The rescue effort has entered a critical stage, with troops reportedly surrounding the suspects’ hideout.

Moreover, all known escape routes within the forest have been blocked. This has left the abductors with limited options and growing pressure.

Meanwhile, the situation took a dark turn after reports emerged of a killed teacher. The act is believed to be a desperate move to stall the rescue mission. However, security agencies appear determined to press forward.

The victims were taken during coordinated attacks on schools in Oriire Local Government Area. The incident stunned communities in Ahoro-Esinle, Yawota, and Alawusa.

A total of 46 people, including pupils and teachers, were abducted during the raid.

Furthermore, security sources revealed that the kidnappers are trapped within a forest zone near a National Park.

Their movements have been restricted as troops maintain strong surveillance. Therefore, chances of escape have been greatly reduced.

It was also gathered that the kidnappers initially made several demands. These included ransom payments, vehicles, and the release of detained commanders.

However, as pressure increased, they reportedly dropped some of these conditions.

In addition, their focus has now shifted mainly to ransom negotiations.

Meanwhile, intelligence reports suggest the gang leader is a local resident. He was said to have lived within the community before becoming radicalised.

The area itself lies near a difficult border corridor with limited communication networks.

Security operations have been intensified in recent months across the region. Moreover, many insurgents have been forced out of their strongholds.

A senior security officer expressed strong confidence in ongoing efforts. The officer stated, “The war against terrorism will be won. We will not relent in the ongoing offensive until these criminals are either eliminated or forced out of the country. President Bola Tinubu recently issued a strong warning to them. The signs of victory are already becoming evident.”

Meanwhile, a separate controversy has emerged involving Sunday Igboho. Claims circulated that he helped secure the release of other kidnapped victims in Oyo. However, police authorities have strongly denied this.

The Police Public Relations Officer clarified the situation in clear terms. He said, “The Nigeria Police Force has officially debunked claims that the hostages have been safely released. Oyo State Commissioner of Police has explicitly denied that Sunday Igboho was involved in recent rescue operations.”

Furthermore, police described viral reports as unverified and misleading.

They urged the public to rely only on official updates. Therefore, investigations are still ongoing to confirm all developments.
