The clarification has now shifted attention to the growing problem of misinformation online and its effect on public confidence and security.

The Lagos State Police Command explained that the footage being shared is an old video from an operation that took place more than three years ago. Therefore, officials stressed that it does not reflect the current security situation in Ikorodu or any other part of Lagos State.

In a statement issued on May 31, 2026, the command urged residents to ignore the circulating clip and avoid spreading unverified information.

The police said, “The Lagos State Police Command wishes to state unequivocally that the video currently circulating on social media platforms depicting the arrest of some Fulani men allegedly found in possession of arms and ammunition in Ikorodu, Lagos State, is an old clip of an incident that occurred over three (3) years ago and does not reflect the current security situation in Ikorodu or any part of Lagos State.”

Furthermore, the command warned that sharing false information could negatively affect public peace and trust in security agencies.

Meanwhile, the command raised concerns about the increasing circulation of misleading content on social media.

Officials stated that individuals who intentionally spread false reports could face legal consequences. In addition, content creators and social media users were advised to verify information before publishing or sharing it.

The police added that investigations would be carried out against anyone found deliberately spreading misinformation capable of causing public disorder.

Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, has directed increased deployment of officers and operational resources to strategic locations across the state.

These areas include major roads, entry points, exit routes, and locations identified as security-sensitive.

Moreover, the police said these efforts are being carried out alongside other security and safety agencies to improve public safety.

Authorities maintained that residents should continue their daily activities without fear, as several security measures have already been put in place.

The police stressed that credible information from the public often helps security agencies respond quickly to threats before they escalate.
