A revelation from Hollywood actor Terrence Howard has stirred fresh debate across the entertainment industry.
The actor disclosed why he rejected the chance to portray music legend Marvin Gaye in a biopic.
Howard explained that criticism followed his decision. However, he insisted that people judged him without understanding his reasons.
“When I turned down the offer to play Marvin Gaye, many people criticized me without knowing my reason,” he said.
He went further to explain what influenced his choice. “The truth is, when I was told Marvin Gaye was gay, I turned down the offer straight away, & told them I’d never play a gay man in a movie.”
In addition, Howard expressed strong personal discomfort with certain scenes. “Look, if I ever kissed a fellow man, I would cüt my lips off. I can’t kiss a man. Never. I can’t fake it,” he stated.

However, he also clarified his stance on sexuality. “I don’t häte gäy men. You can do what you love, but don’t do it at me, don’t aim it at me,” he added.
Meanwhile, Marvin Gaye remains one of the most influential figures in music history. His life story has long been considered suitable for a major film adaptation.
However, casting decisions for such projects can be complex. Filmmakers must balance talent, public image, and audience expectations.
In addition, conversations about representation continue to shape the film industry.
