The release of all the schoolchildren and teachers abducted during the attack on Ahoro-Esiele community has brought relief to families and residents across Oyo State.
The Presidency confirmed that the victims were rescued during a security operation. Furthermore, eight suspected kidnappers were arrested, while several others were killed during the mission.
The school abduction had sparked nationwide concern after dozens of pupils, teachers and a school principal were taken by heavily armed gunmen. However, the successful rescue has brought hope to families who had endured weeks of uncertainty.
The victims were kidnapped on May 15 when armed attackers stormed Ahoro-Esiele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. A total of 46 pupils, teachers and the principal of a secondary school were taken during the attack.
Confirming the latest development, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced that all the victims had regained their freedom through the efforts of security agencies.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, he wrote:
“Finally, all the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Orire, Oyo have been rescued by our security agencies.”
According to information from the Presidency, the rescue operation also led to the arrest of eight suspected kidnappers. In addition, some members of the criminal gang were killed during the operation.

However, authorities have yet to provide full details about how the operation was carried out or identify the security agencies involved.
Meanwhile, the rescued victims and the security team were seen passing through Takie Roundabout in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, shortly after the successful operation. The convoy, carrying all 46 rescued pupils, teachers and school officials, was received with relief as it made its way through the area.
Although the victims are now safe, many observers have called for sustained efforts to prevent similar attacks on schools across the country.
