South Korea’s entertainment industry has been left in pain following the sudden death of veteran actor Park Dong-bin.
Park Dong-bin death was confirmed on Wednesday, April 29, after his body was discovered inside his restaurant in Pyeongtaek. The actor had reportedly been preparing the location ahead of its official opening.
However, the discovery was made by an acquaintance who had been assisting him with the business.
According to officials from the Pyeongtaek Police Station, investigations are still ongoing. Meanwhile, no suicide note was found at the scene, adding to the mystery surrounding the incident.
Moreover, the news has been particularly painful given Park’s recent personal struggles. He is survived by his wife, Lee Sang-yi, and their three-year-old daughter, Jiyu.
In addition, his daughter has been battling a serious congenital heart condition since birth. This aspect of his life had previously been shared publicly during an emotional interview.
During a 2024 appearance on a therapy program, Park opened up about his daughter’s health challenges. He said, “She has left heart hypoplastic syndrome, where the left ventricle and aorta are underdeveloped. Without a heart transplant or surgeries, she could die.”

Furthermore, Jiyu underwent her first surgery just four days after birth. Two additional procedures were later carried out as part of her treatment.
Meanwhile, Park had also expressed concerns about being an older parent. He shared his fears about whether he could fully support his family long-term.
“I’m a 54-year-old father, and I’m worried about whether I can take responsibility for my family until the end,” he said.
However, his sudden passing has now left those concerns painfully unresolved.
Meanwhile, funeral arrangements have already been announced. His wake is scheduled to be held at Domin Funeral Hall in Anseong, Gyeonggi Province.
In addition, his remains will pass through the Yongin Forest of Peace before burial at Woosung Memorial Park. These final rites are expected to be attended by family, friends, and industry colleagues.
