Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry has embraced a new responsibility, accepting the role of assistant general manager for the basketball programs at Davidson College, his alma mater.

Davidson College announced that Curry’s position would be an advisory one, where he will offer guidance and share his experiences with both the men’s and women’s basketball teams.

This opportunity allows the four-time NBA champion to give back to the institution that played a key role in shaping his career.

Curry, who played for Davidson from 2006 to 2009, was twice named conference player of the year before being drafted by the Warriors as the No. 7 pick in 2009.

Now in his 16th NBA season, his impact on basketball remains undeniable.

In addition to his new role, Curry and his wife, Ayesha, are helping establish an “eight-figure fund” alongside Davidson alum Matt Berman and his family.

The initiative is aimed at supporting the school’s basketball programs.

Reflecting on his time at Davidson, Curry expressed his enthusiasm for the new role and the opportunity to contribute to the school’s future.

“The Davidson experience is top notch,” he said in a statement.

“My journey from when I got to Davidson in 2006 to now demonstrated that I had the opportunity to play basketball at the highest level, got a great education, an amazing network through the Davidson alumni and continue to wave the Davidson flag.

I want very talented, high-character student-athletes to have that same experience.”

Meanwhile, Matt Berman, who previously played soccer at Davidson and is a part-owner of English soccer club Burnley, will also serve as an assistant GM.

While Curry’s new role is a significant responsibility, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr downplayed its effect on his NBA career, describing it as “ceremonial.”

Kerr humorously commented, “If he asks to leave for a game to go scout college, I’ll probably say no. But it is Steph Curry, so I’ll probably say yes. I just hope he doesn’t ask.”

Despite his added responsibilities, Curry remains fully committed to the Warriors.

He recently led his team to a victory over the Portland Trail Blazers, scoring 24 points in their 130-120 win, extending their winning streak to five games.

Davidson College has long recognized Curry’s contributions.

In 2022, the institution retired his No. 30 jersey and inducted him into its Hall of Fame.

Additionally, he still holds the NCAA record for most three-pointers made in a season, a record he set during the 2007-08 campaign.

At 36 years old, Curry continues to excel both on and off the court.

With two MVP titles and 11 All-Star selections under his belt, his influence in the world of basketball remains unparalleled.

By taking on this new challenge, Curry demonstrates that leadership extends beyond the court.
