The Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu was celebrated in grand style.
At a state banquet hosted by Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the nation’s top police officer, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, was recognised as a symbol of discipline and service.
Top government officials, security leaders, and community figures were in attendance. In addition, the gathering reflected a rare moment of unity and pride for Lagos indigenes.
Speaking during the event, Sanwo-Olu described Disu as “one of our own,” stressing his strong ties to Lagos. Furthermore, he pointed to his education at Lagos State University and his upbringing on Lagos Island.
“Tonight is a celebration of service and the Lagos spirit,” the Governor said. Therefore, the moment was framed as more than just an award ceremony.
Disu’s career path was also highlighted during the evening. His time leading the Rapid Response Squad was praised for improving security operations.
A ceremonial toast was later held in his honour. He was described as the “OG Good Guy of the Good Guys.”
In his response, Disu remained humble. He dedicated the recognition to officers of the Nigeria Police Force. Moreover, he acknowledged their daily sacrifices in maintaining safety nationwide.
IGP Disu, a Lagos Island native, has held several key roles before his appointment. His journey, therefore, continues to inspire many young Nigerians.
