Delta Police Bust Kidnap Gang, Uncover Gun-Running Network

A major breakthrough has been recorded in Delta State as police operatives dismantled a suspected kidnapping and gun-running network.

In a coordinated operation, several suspects were apprehended, and dangerous weapons were recovered. Moreover, authorities confirmed that the crackdown targeted both local kidnappers and inter-state arms traffickers.

According to the police, intelligence-led operations were carried out across different locations in Delta State. In addition, these actions were part of ongoing strategies to curb kidnapping and illegal arms movement.

Police spokesman SP Bright Edafe revealed that the first arrest took place on April 24, 2026. A 22-year-old suspect, Ahmadu Usman, was apprehended in Ughelli. He was said to be linked to a group targeting commuters along the Ughelli–Warri Road.

Furthermore, Edafe explained that further questioning led to another arrest. A second suspect, Haruna Abdullahi, was picked up along the Warri–Sapele Road. During the operation, an AK-47 rifle and 36 rounds of live ammunition were recovered.

In another related operation, more suspects were arrested in connection with an inter-state gun-running network. Meanwhile, the police confirmed that weapons were being moved between Delta and Rivers State.

A suspect identified as Haruna Jibrin was reportedly involved in transporting arms. Additionally, another accomplice, Isiyaku Adamu, was arrested during follow-up operations. A second AK-47 rifle and a vehicle were also recovered.

“The police said the operations are part of ongoing efforts to tackle kidnapping and illegal arms trafficking within and beyond the state.”

Authorities noted that investigations are still ongoing. However, efforts are being intensified to arrest other fleeing members of the syndicate.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the command’s stance. He stressed zero tolerance for crime and assured residents of improved security.
