Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has urged the Nigeria Police Force to improve its road policing methods after a trip to Ghana.
The actor said he and his colleagues spent 10 days filming in Ghana without encountering a single police checkpoint during their journeys.
He praised the Ghanaian approach and called on Nigeria’s police leadership to make road travel safer and more welcoming for motorists and visitors.
In a video shared online, Kanayo explained that police officers were present on Ghanaian roads.
However, he observed that they appeared to operate strategically rather than stopping vehicles at frequent checkpoints.
The actor commended the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for his reform efforts.
He also urged him to address the actions of officers who damage the force’s reputation.
Kanayo alleged that some dismissed or retired officers had returned to the force.
He called for proper checks to identify and remove anyone who should no longer be serving.
The veteran actor also criticised officers who reportedly view young Nigerians driving expensive cars as suspected internet fraudsters.
He noted that many young people earn legitimate incomes through technology and other businesses.
He urged officers to avoid treating people as criminals without reasonable grounds.

Speaking as a lawyer, Kanayo acknowledged that police officers have the power to conduct searches.
However, he questioned stops where motorists are searched or questioned without clear justification.
Kanayo urged the police leadership to reduce unnecessary checkpoints and improve how officers interact with the public.
He warned that frequent stops could leave tourists and other road users with a poor impression of Nigeria.
The actor also condemned criminal activities and praised officers who work honestly to protect citizens.
He stressed that the Nigeria Police Force serves everyone and should reflect the interests of all Nigerians.
