Nigeria’s healthcare sector is set to gain access to advanced robotic-assisted surgery through Redeemer’s Health Village.
The facility, operated by the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has acquired two robotic surgery systems.
One system will be used for patient care, while the other will train Nigerian medical professionals.
The development is expected to expand access to complex surgical procedures within Nigeria.
These include urology, general surgery, gynaecology, colorectal surgery, thoracic surgery and hepatobiliary surgery.
Redeemer’s Health Village is also setting up a Robotic Academy for specialised medical training.
Training at the academy is expected to begin in October. The initiative will allow Nigerian doctors and other health workers to gain practical skills.
It could also help strengthen local expertise in advanced surgical care.
According to the facility’s Chief Executive Officer, the programme may make some procedures more affordable.
He said some treatments could cost about five per cent of similar procedures in America or Europe.
The cost difference could make advanced treatment more accessible to some Nigerians.
It may also reduce the need for patients to travel abroad for specialised surgery.
RHV said the initiative is focused on combining modern technology with local medical expertise.
The project could also position Nigeria as a destination for advanced surgical training.
The development marks another step towards bringing advanced healthcare technology closer to Nigerian patients.
