Plateau Insecurity Worsens as Fresh Gunmen Ambush Leaves One Dead

Fresh concerns over security have emerged in Plateau State after a deadly ambush claimed the life of one resident and left another seriously injured in Jos South Local Government Area.

The latest incident has heightened fears among residents, especially because it occurred only days after a similar attack in the same area. Community leaders and youth groups are now demanding urgent action from security agencies before the situation worsens further.

According to reports, the attack happened at Sabon Gidan Kanar in the Gyon El District of Jos South. The victims were identified as 36-year-old Shedrack Dalyop and 32-year-old Mang Davou.

While Dalyop lost his life during the attack, Davou survived with serious injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.

The incident reportedly took place on June 6, 2026, and has renewed concerns about the safety of residents living within the affected communities.

Furthermore, local groups say the latest violence appears to be part of a troubling pattern that continues to threaten lives and property in the area.

Reacting to the development, the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM) strongly condemned the attack and called for an immediate investigation.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong, the association expressed concern over the increasing number of violent incidents in the community.

According to the statement:

“The Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), under the leadership of Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, strongly condemns the ambush of Mr. Shedrack Dalyop, 36, of Kuru District, and Mr. Mang Davou, 32, of Gyel District, at Sabon Gidan Kanar in Gyon el District of Jos South Local Government Area.”

The group further highlighted the outcome of the attack.

According to the statement:

“The attack resulted in the death of Mr. Shedrack Dalyop, while Mr. Mang Davou sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.”

Moreover, the association pointed out that the tragedy came shortly after another violent incident in the same area.

It stated:

“This incident occurred barely days after a similar attack in the same area that claimed one life and left another person hospitalised, underscoring the growing insecurity confronting residents of the community.”

Meanwhile, the association urged Operation Enduring Peace and other security agencies to identify those responsible and ensure they face justice.

In addition, BYM offered condolences to the family of the deceased while wishing the injured victim a speedy recovery.

Residents were also encouraged to remain calm and cooperate with security officials.
