Tension is rising in Osun State as police summon Senator Francis Fadahunsi over an alleged threat against Accord Party members.
The senator, who represents Osun East, was invited days before the state’s governorship election.
The police action followed a viral video allegedly showing Fadahunsi directing APC supporters to attack rival party members.
In the video, he allegedly told supporters to “kill” Accord Party members found in parts of Ilesa.
The alleged statement has sparked concern over possible political violence ahead of Saturday’s election.
In an invitation dated August 11, 2026, police asked Fadahunsi to explain the remarks.
The senator was directed to appear before the State Criminal Investigation Department in Osogbo.
He is expected to report at 11:00am on Wednesday, August 12.
The invitation was signed by Samuel Etaifo Erale, Commissioner of Police in charge of elections.
Police said the invitation followed information concerning statements allegedly made during an APC campaign in Ilesa.
“The invitation is premised on information in possession of the Nigeria Police alleging that during your address at the aforementioned programme, you made statements considered to be threatening, inciting, and intimidating in nature, and the statement has already been in circulation on various electronic and social media platforms,” the letter read.
The police are expected to question the senator about the alleged remarks and their possible effect on election security.
Authorities have repeatedly warned against actions capable of causing violence during the electoral process.
The Osun election is scheduled for August 15, with security agencies expected to maintain peace across the state.
Fadahunsi’s response to the police invitation was not included in the information available.
