The Federal Government has set May 1 aside as a public holiday, giving Nigerians a moment to recognise and celebrate Workers’ Day across the country.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who congratulated workers across the nation.
Moreover, the declaration highlights the government’s recognition of labour contributions to national growth and stability.
Meanwhile, the May 1 public holiday directive in Nigeria is expected to give millions of workers time to reflect on and celebrate their efforts.
It also serves as a reminder of the importance of unity and dedication in national development.
In a statement released by Permanent Secretary Dr. Magdalene Ajani, workers were praised for their resilience and commitment. Their contributions, she noted, have continued to drive economic progress despite ongoing challenges.
Furthermore, the minister emphasized the importance of values such as patriotism and productivity.
“I charge Nigerian workers to embrace patriotism, productivity, and dedication to their duties. These qualities, according to him are crucial for sustainable development,” he said.
In addition, the government reaffirmed its promise to improve workers’ welfare and strengthen security nationwide.
He said, “The federal government of Nigeria is committed to supporting the welfare and security of all workers and creating a favorable environment for economic growth.”
However, beyond the celebration, citizens have been urged to remain peaceful and law-abiding during the holiday.
Meanwhile, Workers’ Day continues to be recognised globally, drawing attention to labour rights and fair working conditions.
In Nigeria, the day has remained a key moment to reflect on progress and challenges in the workforce.
