President Bola Tinubu has endorsed Obafemi Hamzat for the 2027 Lagos governorship race.
The endorsement was made during a meeting held at the State House in Abuja. Moreover, the gathering included members of the Lagos Governance Advisory Council and top APC leaders.
According to presidential aide Bayo Onanuga, the position was made clear during the high-level meeting. The statement was shared publicly through his official post on Wednesday.
“President Tinubu formally endorses the Lagos APC consensus governorship candidate Obafemi Hamzat at a meeting with members of the Lagos Governance Advisory Council, led by Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu,” Onanuga wrote.
The endorsement was displayed visually as Tinubu was seen holding the nomination form with Hamzat. In addition, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other top figures were present at the session.
The meeting was attended by key political leaders including Femi Gbajabiamila, Tokunbo Abiru, and Musiliu Obanikoro.
Furthermore, the development follows earlier support from Governor Sanwo-Olu. At a Lagos House meeting, he described Hamzat as the preferred successor. He also stated that Hamzat was the “best man for the job.”
The Hamzat 2027 governorship endorsement has also gained momentum within party structures. Consequently, the Lagos Governance Advisory Council officially backed him as a consensus candidate.
In addition, the GAC leader confirmed unanimous agreement among members during a meeting at Lagos House Marina. The decision further strengthened Hamzat’s position ahead of the upcoming election cycle.
