The Nigeria Police Force has renewed its commitment to tackling kidnapping and banditry, offering reassurance to Nigerians amid growing security concerns.
The reassurance came at a time when many Nigerians remain worried about the activities of criminal groups in different parts of the country.
Speaking during Politics Nationwide, a Radio Nigeria political programme, the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, said security agencies remain committed to tackling insecurity and restoring public confidence.
His comments have drawn attention because they come as discussions about national security continue to dominate public conversations ahead of the 2027 general election.
According to Placid, one of the major challenges affecting security operations is the issue of porous borders. He explained that criminal elements often take advantage of weak border controls to move across locations and carry out illegal activities.
Furthermore, he assured Nigerians that the police remain focused on combating kidnapping, banditry, and other crimes threatening communities.
The police spokesperson also sympathised with families affected by kidnapping incidents across the country.
Meanwhile, he warned members of the public against spreading false information that could create panic or undermine security operations.
DCP Placid noted that the Police Headquarters has already introduced measures to address misinformation and fake reports linked to security matters.
According to him, false reports can complicate investigations and create unnecessary fear among citizens.
In addition, he highlighted ongoing reforms being introduced under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu.
He explained that the current police leadership is promoting stronger community engagement as part of a broader Nigeria security strategy aimed at improving public safety.
The approach, he said, focuses on cooperation between residents and security agencies.
Also speaking on the programme, security expert Dr. David Okoro called for greater collaboration between citizens and security agencies.

He said every stakeholder has a role to play in addressing insecurity across the country.
According to him, the fight against kidnapping and banditry cannot be left to security agencies alone.
Furthermore, Dr. Okoro advocated regular training and retraining of security personnel to improve effectiveness and professionalism.
He noted that modern criminal networks continue to evolve, making continuous training necessary.
In addition, he encouraged Nigerians to remain alert and security-conscious in their daily activities.
The expert particularly urged citizens to be vigilant as preparations gradually begin for the 2027 general election.
Political activities are expected to increase in the coming months. Therefore, stronger security awareness will be needed across communities.
