FCT Police Rescue Five Kidnap Victims in Abuja, Recover Weapons and Arrest Suspects

A daring night operation by security forces has led to the rescue of five kidnapped victims in Abuja after a fierce confrontation with suspected kidnappers in the Byazhin area of the Federal Capital Territory.

The breakthrough came after weeks of concern over kidnapping activities within parts of Abuja. However, security operatives turned the tide when they launched a direct offensive against the criminal group.

The operation became even more remarkable after the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, personally led the rescue mission. Consequently, five hostages were freed unharmed, two suspects were arrested, and two others were neutralized during a gun battle.

Speaking after the successful operation, the police commissioner made a bold statement that reflected the determination behind the mission.

“We brought the war to them, we were tired of waiting for them.”

The operation was carried out in Paze Community within the Byazhin axis of Abuja. It followed recent kidnapping incidents that had created fear among residents.

According to the FCT Police Command, the rescue mission was conducted on June 9, 2026. The operation involved officers from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Nigeria Police Force Intelligence Response Team (IRT), and the Kubwa Area Command.

Moreover, local hunters and vigilante groups joined the operation, providing valuable support and knowledge of the terrain.

Security sources disclosed that the joint team launched an extensive search and clearance exercise around 9:00 p.m. During the operation, suspected kidnappers engaged security operatives in a gun duel.

As the confrontation intensified, two suspects were neutralized. Furthermore, two others identified as Icheh Mohammadu and Abubakar Usman were arrested.

Meanwhile, several gang members reportedly escaped into nearby hills with gunshot wounds. Therefore, security agencies have intensified efforts to track them down.

The operation also led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles and magazines believed to have been used by the criminal group.

Police said the sustained pressure mounted by the security team forced the kidnappers to abandon their captives.

Authorities confirmed that the victims are receiving care and are expected to be reunited with their families soon.

The successful mission sparked scenes of celebration among officers involved in the operation. Members of the FCT Police Command, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, and the Intelligence Response Team were seen celebrating the achievement.

For many of the officers, the moment represented more than operational success.

It reflected the risks taken during the mission, the lives saved, and the commitment to protecting Abuja residents from violent crime.

Furthermore, the police have also appealed to healthcare workers and hospitals to report anyone seeking treatment for suspicious gunshot wounds.

Investigators believe some fleeing suspects may attempt to obtain medical care while avoiding arrest.

Meanwhile, search operations continue across Byazhin and neighboring communities.

The Commissioner of Police commended the courage and professionalism displayed by officers and local security volunteers during the mission.

In addition, he reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling kidnapping, armed robbery, and other violent crimes across the Federal Capital Territory.
