Popular Nollywood actor Timini Egbuson has revealed that he once borrowed items and chased a luxury lifestyle just to keep up appearances, admitting that the pressure to look successful eventually made him rethink what truly matters.
Speaking on The Mentality with Ebuka, Timini Egbuson said he later discovered that chasing expensive things never brings lasting happiness.
He explained that maturity helped him focus on peace of mind instead of trying to impress people.
Reflecting on his past, the actor admitted, “There were days that I was that guy that, I will fake it, I will borrow.”
He explained that many people feel pressured to appear successful, even when they are struggling financially.
Timini also questioned whether luxury truly brings satisfaction. He asked, “Are you doing it with your full chest? Like how you got it, are you happy with it when you’re alone, when you’re looking into your mirror? And without it, would you still be happy?”
The actor revealed that he once owned about 150 perfumes. However, he stopped buying more after realising the money could have been invested in valuable assets like land.
He added that there is nothing wrong with enjoying success. Still, he believes people should never measure their worth by expensive items or online attention.
Timini urged influencers and public figures to be more open about life’s struggles.
According to him, honest conversations can stop others from making harmful decisions just to keep up with unrealistic lifestyles displayed on social media.
