I Wanted to Teach Her a Lesson — Ex-Guard Arrested Over Murder of Retired OGTV Broadcaster

The mystery surrounding the brutal killing of a retired Ogun State Television (OGTV) broadcaster has taken a turn after police arrested three suspects, including a former security guard who allegedly confessed to planning the attack.

The development has stirred concern across Ogun State, especially after investigators revealed that the crime may have been driven by personal grievances rather than a random attack.

Police said the suspects were tracked and arrested days after retired broadcaster Olakitan Oyesiku and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, were found dead at Oyesiku’s residence in Owode-Egba.

The victims were discovered on June 21 under circumstances that immediately raised suspicion. According to authorities, signs of forced entry were noticed at the property.

Speaking during a press briefing in Abeokuta, Ogun State Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni said detectives launched an intensive investigation involving intelligence gathering, technical tracking and forensic analysis.

“Preliminary information indicated that the front door of the residence had been partially damaged while the security house within the compound was found locked, prompting immediate police intervention,” Ojajuni said.

Upon arrival, officers made a disturbing discovery. Adetayo’s body was found inside the security post. Meanwhile, Oyesiku was discovered in the living room of her home.

Investigators also noticed that a Lexus RX 330 belonging to the deceased was missing from the compound.

“The crime scene was scientifically processed,” the police commissioner said.

According to Ojajuni, the missing vehicle was recovered the following day through intelligence-led operations and technical tracking efforts.

Police recovered a handwritten note believed to have been left behind by those responsible for the crime.

“One critical piece of evidence recovered from the scene was a handwritten note apparently left behind by the perpetrators. The note was subjected to forensic examination and analysis, which generated valuable investigative leads,” Ojajuni stated.

As a result, investigators traced and arrested 22-year-old Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta.

Further investigations led to the arrest of Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36.

According to police, Philip later admitted involvement in the killings and revealed how the operation was allegedly carried out.

“During interrogation, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip made a confessional statement, admitting his involvement in the murder of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku. He further disclosed that he had recruited Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola and Sobu Obafunsho to participate in the crime,” Ojajuni said.

The suspect reportedly told detectives that he planned the attack because of grievances linked to the period he worked for the deceased.

“The suspect stated that the murder of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku was intended to teach her a lesson,” the commissioner added.

According to investigators, the suspects first overpowered the security guard before gaining access to the residence.

“Upon gaining entry, they attacked Madam Olakitan Oyesiku and subsequently murdered the security guard,” Ojajuni said.

Furthermore, police recovered several items believed to be connected to the crime. These included a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank and a black pen.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command said investigations remain ongoing. Authorities also stressed that all suspects are entitled to fair treatment under the law despite the confessional statements and evidence already obtained.

“The Ogun State Police Command wishes to emphasise that while the suspects have made useful statements and substantial evidence has been recovered in the course of the investigation, all suspects remain entitled to due process under the law,” Ojajuni said.

The commissioner assured residents that justice would be pursued diligently. In addition, he reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring everyone connected to the crime is brought before the law.
