The Trump administration is set to dismiss dozens of FBI agents, particularly those involved in investigations related to the January 6 Capitol incident and former special counsel Jack Smith’s probes.
Sources indicate that officials are reviewing employees who may resist new policies, with firings expected as early as Friday and a final list being confirmed by Monday. 
“Every FBI employee will be held to the absolute same standard, and no one will be terminated for cases,” stated Trump’s FBI director nominee, Kash Patel, while also facing questions about potential political retribution.
The FBI Agents Association has strongly opposed the reported dismissals, arguing that such actions contradict assurances given by Patel before his Senate confirmation hearing.
“If true, these outrageous actions… are fundamentally at odds with the law enforcement objectives outlined by President Trump,” the association stated, warning that mass firings could weaken national security efforts.
However, Trump has suggested that removing certain officials could be beneficial, asserting, “If they fired some people over there, that’s a good thing because they were very bad.”
Despite concerns, the FBI has declined to comment on the situation, maintaining that personnel matters remain confidential.
Meanwhile, opposition has mounted from within the agency, with critics arguing that dismissing agents could create operational gaps and hinder ongoing investigations.
Nevertheless, Trump’s supporters believe these actions are necessary to ensure loyalty and prevent unauthorized leaks that could destabilize his administration.
