A retired traffic officer has received a special honour after years of dedicated service to the Nigerian public.
Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu presented Anifa Bello Abiodun with an IGP Award of Recognition.
The retired Deputy Superintendent of Traffic also received cash support during the presentation in Abuja.
The ceremony took place at the Force Headquarters on Thursday, September 17, 2026.
Bello spent her career serving with the Ogun State Police Command, particularly in Abeokuta.
She was recognised for professionalism, discipline, resilience and commitment to traffic management.
Her work also earned appreciation from residents and road users in the communities where she served.
The IGP said Nigerians value the Police when officers perform their duties professionally and responsibly.
He noted that public anger is often caused by misconduct rather than the institution itself.
Disu expressed satisfaction that Bello earned the respect of the community during her service.
He also stressed that police officers must remain accountable for misconduct.
At the same time, he said personnel who show integrity and dedication should receive recognition.
According to him, such rewards can encourage other officers to maintain professional standards.
The recognition also highlights the importance of dedicated traffic officers in communities across Nigeria.
