What Really Happened to Xi Jinping — India’s Ministry of External Affairs Addresses Viral Claims

Fresh rumours about Chinese President Xi Jinping’s health have spread online after the BRICS Summit in New Delhi.

Social media posts claimed the Chinese leader became seriously ill and was rushed to the hospital after leaving India.

However, India’s Ministry of External Affairs has rejected the claims, calling the online reports misleading.

The MEA fact-checking team issued the warning on Thursday, September 17. It also cautioned users against spreading what it described as “malicious posts” on social media.

One widely circulated claim came from Chinese dissident Wanjun Xie.

He alleged that Xi fainted during the summit and later suffered a severe ischemic stroke.

The post further claimed that Xi struggled while boarding his aircraft before returning to China.

It also alleged that he was taken to Beijing’s 301 Hospital after landing.

However, there is no credible evidence supporting those claims.

The Xi Jinping health rumours gained attention alongside reports about South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Ramaphosa’s office separately confirmed that he was advised to rest after returning from the BRICS Summit.

The South African Presidency said he was staying away from public engagements because of ill health. It did not disclose details about his condition.

The MEA warned against linking such developments to unsupported claims about other leaders.

The ministry said, “Fake Alert!!! We caution against such malicious posts on social media platforms!”

The Xi Jinping health rumours therefore remain unverified despite their spread online.
