The President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Olasupo Ayokunle urges Nigerian Government to hearken to the voice of the youths of for a change in the nation.
Remember the youths of Nigeria started a peaceful protest #ENDSARS across the country on the 3rd of October 2020 against Police brutality and FSARS which resulted to the disbandment of the FSARS unit after some days into the protest.
Unfortunately the protest was hijacked by hoodlums, which resulted to the burning of government/private properties, Police stations, BRT buses, Media outfits, looting of Shopping Malls, etc.
The crisis took several lives which includes some police Officers. Although normalcy has returned to the land but the rate of crime and lawlessness has drastically increased. The security officials, e.g. Police, Lasma, Taskforce, Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC) aren’t as active as before. Lawlessness is on hig, as vehicles now go against traffic laws/ regulations.
Speaking on Sunday at the consecration ceremony of James Owoyemi as the President of the United Apostolic Church of Christ (U.A.C.C) worldwide, Olasupo said, “I want the government not to trivialize the voice of the youth but to ensure and work assiduously and make concrete plans for them in the developmental programme of the country especially in creating an enabling environment for employment for the youths.
The President of CAN advised the Nigerian youths to be patient as Rome wasn’t built in a day. He said, “With the way they have spoken, I also want to advise the youth to be patient because Rome was not built in a day.
“They also need to allow the government to have space to rejig things and make plans for them.”
Rev. Olasupo also emphasised on the need to praise God if the year is good or not. “If any year is good we need to praise him and if otherwise, we need to talk to him the more on the need to make the year better for us. The situation of the country has shown to us that power belongs to God and not to us. Any good we receive is not because we merit it, It’s because of His grace.
“We need need to be humble in our dealings with the Almighty. Appreciate him for the little we have so that he can open the doors for the plenty.”
The CAN President further stated that, “The youth of the country has spoken. Let the government listen and rise to its responsibility. What we are expecting after the protest is a positive change in the country.” Rev. Olasupo Ayokunle concluded.
